Thankyou San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization

Our sincere thanks to the San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO).

CECO provides grants that cultivate opportunities for people and communities in San Diego County to thrive.  The Blind Community Center has benefitted from CECO’s generosity for many years.    CECO gave the BCCSD ten  rolling shelving units for Bingo, Game Day, Free Lunch and Corner Grocery programs..   These wheeled, mobile shelving units are just the thing to bring needed supplies to where the program is being held..   Volunteers and participants are grateful for this wonderful gift.

THANK YOU CECO!

We are using the shelves to showcase bingo prizes for our blind bingo program.  A storage room was turned into a pantry for canned and non-perishable food for our free lunch program.  Two of the units are used for our free Corner Grocery program.   Our participants take home bags of groceries which they select from the shelves. We also use the rolling shelves for board games and braille cards.  We are also using two shelves in the hallway, right outside the kitchen, for kitchen pots, baking trays and other items, which were previously kept in several different places.  This gives volunteer cooks more time to cook and less time is needed to remember where items are located.  It’s so great!  Everything needed to prepare meals for 20-80 people is conveniently kept right next to the kitchen. We love our commercial kitchen, but there is not quite enough storage room in the kitchen for big items.

The shelves make it so easy to move the supplies to where we need them and back again.   Volunteers need less time to prepare for events and have more time with participants. So, one more time, Thank you CECO.
