HAPPY 70TH ANNIVERSARY BLIND COMMUNITY CENTER

The Blind Community Center has a landmark 70th anniversary in May of 2019. Our future is bright. We have dedicated volunteers and generous donors. We have added new programs, enhanced our traditional activities and our legacy is strong. Our goal is the same as it was 70 years ago, to provide an opportunity for the blind and visually impaired in San Diego County to become part of a community, and to offer programs that allow blind and visually impaired individuals to improve their lives.

Our income is dependent on donations from the community and we need those donations to fund our free lunch program, offer transportation, and maintain our building. In the past two years the BCCSD has reduced costs, minimized waste, streamlined processes, and re-built our volunteer base. We are managed by committed volunteers, including board members, who are driven to make the BCCSD a place where the blind and visually impaired can come to have fun, engage with their peers and be independent.
Two years ago, the BCCSD was open 4 half days during the week; Today, we are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekday and from 9 a.m. until noon every Saturday, and we are having fun every day!

Every year, check the Blind Community Center May Newsletter for our anniversary party information. Please join us to remember the past and look forward to the future.
