Giving Tuesday 2020

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Blind Community Center of San Diego,

On this global day of Giving, we share your concerns for all those who are struggling right now. While our low vision and blind community shelters at home, dedicated Blind Community Center volunteers are doing their best to show support and maintain open communication to combat isolation and loneliness, by phone, email, text and large print paper newsletters, to make sure everyone has the resources they need for food, shelter and especially activities.

The BCCSD has always been a place where the blind and visually impaired can have fun, engage with their peers and be independent. When we have something important to do and we have people to talk to, it helps us feel like our lives have purpose. Social activities help people stay healthy and motivated to live a better life. Most of our members and participants are low income and the BCCSD offers them something special in this sighted world.

During the Stay-at-Home order, the BCCSD has moved to virtual classes and activities. We currently have online/telephone virtual games, Spanish and French lessons, dance, the USD/BCCSD partnership class and writing classes. Until we can get back to the center, we are going to host our ever-popular BINGO online.

While we wait for things to return to normal, we still have continuing facilities expenses such as insurance, fire and intruder alarms, utilities. Newsletter production and distribution keeps our community connected and engaged. There will be small prizes of essential household items for the BINGO and games activities.

When the stay at home order is lifted and our people will be able to venture out for essential travel. MTS ACCESS tickets cost $10 for a round trip anywhere. We would like to be able to help with that expense.

Please consider making a gift of any amount to support the Blind Community Center of San Diego. Any amount will make a difference, so please give what you can.
With your help, we can continue to provide fun, entertaining programs that improve lives.
