BLIND COMMUNITY CENTER ARTISTS DISPLAY THEIR ART AT HORTON PLAZA

For several months, San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) artists worked with Blind Community Center artists to create an art exhibit that was displayed at the Art Institute gallery in Horton Plaza.   Feel the Noise ran from July 15 through July 22.  The art projects explored the ways people with visual impairments navigate the world around them.  In the photo below are, Aren, Nena, Lyn and Ari, Sharlene and Francisco.

Projects documented sounds from specific spaces and environments.  They depicted favorite memories and experiences of those shared by BCCSD artists. Instruments handcrafted from found objects amplify sound and rhythm throughout the exhibition space. A simulation of touch and sound-driven navigation through an unfamiliar environment is shared as a tool for exploring the concept of dis-associative roaming.  Today, you can see the the exhibit permanently on display at the Blind Community Center.
