The weather for December Nights was perfect. BCC volunteers got started at the center at around 10:00 am on Friday morning. Tables, chairs, seat cushions, electric cords, electric lights, the BCC banner, display racks, canopies, table cloths, tape, zip ties, business cards, scissors, labels, BCC brochures, bottles of water, peanut butter sandwiches, and boxes and boxes of completed craft projects were loaded into one truck and a small SUV. Everything was unloaded in Balboa Park and our site assembled by about 2:00 pm.
Hand-made crocheted and knitted hats, scarves and slippers, beaded angels, Santas, snowmen and Christmas Trees were all lined up and ready for customers. Colorful candy elves and choo-choo trains tempted small shoppers and their parents. ![]() Fabric wreaths, milk jug Santas and crocheted wall hangings were hung on display racks standing at the back of our tables. ![]() ![]() Seating for Santa and singers was ready and the people started to arrive. They marveled at the intricate beading on the angels and beaded lights. They were surprised to find out that the basic materials were beads and safety pins. They closed their eyes and tried to imagine how these delicate items were made by blind and low vision people. After browsing all of our items, customers made their selections and pretty much bought everything! We had a few items left over after the two-day event, but not many. Beaded Santa Lights made from safety Pins and Beads When Santa arrived, he had a non-stop line of children anxious to talk to him with parents just as anxious to take pictures. We gladly accepted donations for the photo op and the public was happy to contribute. ![]() BCC singers entertained for a short time and were well received. Overall, our December Nights effort was a huge success. |
