Grand Opening of Scented Garden and Serenity Room

On September 8, 2018, The National Charity League (NCL), Del Norte Chapter, Senior Class of 2019 held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Blind Community Center and presented a renovated youth room and new sensory garden in our patio.

The garden has pots planted with scented lavender, basil, thyme, oregano, mint, rosemary, jasmine, passion vine, geraniums and fruit trees.

The youth room is now the serenity room (an oasis of serenity amidst the bustling recreation center). Changes include newly painted white walls, cool blue indoor-outdoor carpeting, four off-white electric recliners, a large flat screen TV on the wall, portable patio chairs which may be used indoors or outdoors and plump cushions for the chairs.

NCL arranged to have both of our pianos tuned and created wall decor with inscriptions from Helen Keller and Roy Ayer. Both inscriptions are accompanied by plaques transcribed into Braille.

Helen Keller – “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.”

Roy Ayer
“The True Beauty of Music is that it Connects People.”
